You can "register" via Microsoft Update - open your browser and go to. If Office has not been configured to do that (eg customized to not do that for your organisation),or, if the attempt was refused/blocked/denied by the person performing the installation (or in a custom Windows image) - that might be why it's missing for When another product is installed (eg Office), the Office installation will (usually) perform a registration with "Microsoft Update", which adds additional servicing behaviours, eg get Office updates as part of the integrated Windows update regime.
By default, Windows Update Agent (WUAgent) only caters for Windows, not for Office/other products.
