I very much doubt there is any PS1 game with Dolby Pro Logic II audio. After the negative reception Live 2002 received last year, EA Sports reworked the NBA Live formula for 2003, and the result in a fast-paced game of basketball reminiscent of Live's 16-bit days. It is possible that Dolby Pro Logic II encoding was used in PS1 games since this encoder was released in 2000 while PS1 games were still being released until 2004 but I don't know of any.Įdit - Only N2O has Dolby Pro Logic of the games I have, so it appears that most games have basic Dolby Surround. Other games just note "Dolby Surround" which doesn't have steering logic to drive channel volume differences but has the same 4.0 surround sound otherwise. In case of the PS1 it appears that the version used on the some games is "Dolby Pro Logic" introduced in 1987, which encodes a center channel and a mono rear channel shared by two rear speakers in addition to the regular left/right front speakers (4.0 surround sound) and changes channel volume based on the dominant sound direction.
The Playstation 1 has stereo output (red and white RCA connections) that can be used for Dolby Surround sound early decoding technologies.
